No One Owes you Coffee

I typically wake up around 5:30 in the morning. I get cleaned up and dressed, and then I make my way to our kitchen. It's usually dark, and I'll turn on a light and play some calm instrumental music. I'll then go to our pantry, pull out a bag of coffee, and measure out 20 grams of coffee on a small kitchen scale.

I'll heat up some water until the boiling point and hold that temperature in place while grinding the coffee beans. I’ll have a magnificent cup of coffee ready in four to five minutes. To some, measuring coffee beans seems ridiculous. For me, it helps me focus and be mindful of the moment. A moment to appreciate the many months of effort that went into bringing that coffee to my table. I also reflect on the fact that I'm not owed this coffee and don't take it for granted.

I promise you a mindful cup of coffee tastes much better than coffee made with little effort. Gratitude adds flavor to all of the gifts we have in life.

"As soon as man does not take his existence for granted, but beholds it as something unfathomably mysterious, thought begins."- Albert Schweitzer

There's a lot to be anxious about these days, but take a moment to recognize the great gifts we have around us. Gifts like coffee...

My friend, I wish you a mindful day ahead.
