The Gift of a Three-Hour Drive
Decades of experience in the hospitality industry have taught me many things. One thing, in particular, is that when you serve, you tend to take holidays and vacations when no one else is. This reality means it's rare for me to leave Alberta during the summer months.
But why would I want to do that? Alberta has much to appreciate in all four seasons, but I'm partial to Alberta Summers. There is something beautiful to see if you drive three hours in any direction.
Do you feel like you're in a rut? Let me challenge you to find a free day, load up your road trip playlist, jump in your car, and grab a breakfast; a Mcdonald's Egg McMuffin meal will do. Then drive. Drive 90 minutes to 3 hours in any direction. Have lunch wherever you stop, and then head home. The only caveat I'd add is to try to avoid using the Queen Elizabeth II Highway. Instead, try using a highway that's less familiar to you.
I think you'll be reminded of a few insights:
1) Prairies and fields are very beautiful
2) If you're willing to try, you'll find that "Smalltown Alberta" will have some unique experiences. For either just your or your entire family.
3) Three hours in any direction will give you a new landscape to view. The drive will help you feel better and give you enough new perspective to knock you out of your rut.
Thanks for reading, friend! Get out there! There's no place like home! cue the music “I’m Alberta Bound!”
P.S Leave me a suggestion in the comments for a tune I should add to my next Alberta Roadtrip Playlist! Thanks!
