Love to the 22nd Century

Someday, in the early 22nd century, this head will wake up on a pillow in a very different world than the one we're living in today. It is possible that in that time, people may be facing similar challenges to the ones we're facing today. Perhaps even a worldwide pandemic.

I imagine in my mind that perhaps young people will ask him what it was like to live through the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020-22. They will have the scientific data to refer to, and historians will no doubt interpret and comment on the decisions of governments, but my kids will be able to share the story of life in 2022.

I hope that they'll say something to the effect of "Well, we knew there was a virus, but we didn't ever feel like we were experiencing a worldwide pandemic. There were things we couldn't do, places we couldn't go, and activities we couldn't participate in, but we didn't know any better. We were cared for." I don't think they'll remember many specifics about this era. They'll only remember if they were loved or not. I don't want to minimize the moment's pain, but I would encourage everyone to consider their focus and response to what's going on in the world today. Why? Because there's a generation that's watching.

If I have to choose one value for my children to carry with them into the 22nd century, it's this. Of all the things you can lose in life, don't lose love. If you have love, you have a foundation you can build on. That's it. Take care of the people in your life, and let's get through this.

There's a lot we can't do right now,

The world is changing, and it's not going to go back to the way it was. We're going to move forward.

but "now these three remain, faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love." Let's keep that.
