Christmas Clinometer
Christmas is the time to stop and train our eyes to see hope again. It's also an invitation for all of us to work towards a world where peace is the norm.
What if no one shows up?
I write and create with the hopes of an audience, but I really do it because I believe the work in itself is important.
Prayer for the Unremarkable
I work hard every day and try not to get in other people's way or stir up trouble. I don't even ask for much attention, but it'd be nice to have a bit. This world I live in has very little room for the unremarkable.
What if…Easter?
I’m now speaking for myself, but the story of Jesus’ resurrection requires me to ask this question. “What if you truly believe in the power of Easter? How does your story play out?”
Values and Stolen Bikes
Being robbed is an aspect of urban life. It doesn't define life in the city, but it is a reality. When something like this happens, I'm angry and frustrated because we work as a family to make things better in the world, and it feels like our efforts are futile. In times like these, I feel like the world is laughing at our values, and it's humiliating.
Journey to Jupiter
I'm bothered that people are struggling to pay their grocery bills and have every reason to worry about whether they can keep a roof over their heads. Many of these people are the ones keeping the lights on in our communities across our country. I sense the fragility of peace in our present moment.
The Creative Grace
There are a lot of reasons to be afraid these days. We know this because our news feeds don't offer us a variety of stories to consume. The menu of the day seems to be a buffet of war, destruction, violence, and despair.
Instant Faith
We're all smart here. Despite what we're being sold, we all know deep down inside that any worthwhile transformation requires a crucial ingredient—hard work. There is no way around it. I can't change myself for the better unless I do the work. Though TikTok and Instagram advertise otherwise, sustainable success is a long game.
Less Afraid
There is a market for inspiring fear and anger. Yes, there is often cause for concern, but fear is paralyzing, and we need more people who are willing to make an investment in our collective courage.
Easter at the North Saskatchewan
If you live in Edmonton, each time you go to the tap and pour yourself a cold glass of water, you're tasting something that has come to us from the Columbia Icefield. A stream of water begins as a trickle and then starts a downward flow from the Saskatchewan Glacier.
The Stars We’ll Never Reach
There's a certain persistence required for hope. We might not see a peaceful present, but generations ahead of us will live in a better future.
Good…And Lost
Good and lost are not words I would typically put together. They seem at odds with each other. For most people, feeling lost, displaced, and forgotten are not feelings we would seek out on our own. But inevitably, we all come to a place where the next steps are unknown. It could be the loss of a job, a loved one, a community, or even a dream.
Santa Rides ETS
Believing good people surround you will help you take risks, speak honestly, and do the right thing.
Nostalgia-The False God
Sales and marketing departments love people like me because I'm an easy target. They know that all they have to do is put out some key images, like a retro-looking Santa with a bottle of Coke, and I'm in! Take my money!… Businesses know how to use the not-so-secret weapon of marketing... Nostalgia.
Life in the Dark
If we let it, the darkness has a way of isolating us all into believing we're alone in the world.
Give Peace a Like
Like many of you, I was embarrassed and angry to see what happened last weekend in Grand Prairie, where an individual verbally assaulted Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and her staff. Unfortunately, the man's conduct is an example of behavior in Alberta that's becoming far too common. Not just in Alberta but in Canada and around the world.
Love to the 22nd Century
Someday, in the early 22nd century, this head will wake up on a pillow in a very different world than the one we're living in today. It is possible that in that time, people may be facing similar challenges to the ones we're facing today. Perhaps even a worldwide pandemic.
See The Stars
If you're in a place in life where you can no longer see the stars, remember the times you could. If that fails you, find someone who can remind you.
